Children's Realm

Fun at the Palace with Federico

The Throne Room (Thronsaal)

In the Children's Realm of Ludwigsburg Palace much is allowed that is otherwise strictly forbidden in museums!  Touching, trying and participating are expressly desired - everywhere. Together with the accompanying adults, children from four years of age will experience a world of wonders. In the "Children's Realm" they can learn about life in the Baroque age 300 years ago playfully and with all their senses.  In a group both young and old experience how it feels to be a member of the Duke's court.  It's easier to understand history with role playing.  And then, inspired by the "Children's Realm", the participants can embark on a guided tour for families that takes them through the Palace Museum.  Or they can head off on their own to a palace rally through four museums.

The first stop along the experience-filled route into the Baroque age is the Dressing Room (Ankleidezimmer).  Just like back then, a busy servant helps everyone in their selection of the proper clothes to be appareled in keeping with ones station.  Everything required to take part in life at the court, such as jewelry and fans, hats, crowns or wigs, is there.  And with the right makeup, role-playing can begin!

The first visit takes visitors to the Throne Room (Thronsaal).  Here, surrounded by his advisors and the royal retinue, the ruler receives envoys from all the courts of Europe.  The rules of etiquette and the complicated court ceremonies are quickly learned – and everyone can present themselves in the manner once customary for kings!

You're tired of all the strict rules?  In the games corner there are board and card games like the ones once played 300 years ago.  Those who want to can demonstrate their skill with a yoyo or as a juggler.  And long-forgotten games are also just waiting to be rediscovered there.

The Bed Chamber (Schlafzimmer)

Those who are exhausted from the strains of courtly life can head to the Bed Chamber (Schlafzimmer).  There the sumptuous royal bed invites visitors to chill out in the style of the Baroque.  A pull of the servant's bell and stories can be heard that once took place in the palace.  Well-rested and wide awake, the ruler can hold his first audience of the day from the bed and receive the entire royal household there.

In the Dining Hall (Speisezimmer) courtly conversation and the good manners of nobility are required.  Of course, everyone makes sure that they look good at the table and appeal to the sovereign.  Diversion and entertainment - that's what the Court Theater (Hoftheater) is for.  In the children's realm you'll experience the reconstruction of the famous Baroque Ludwigsburg Theater.  And everything really works!  Those who want to can put on a play or dance to historic melodies – or they can simply enjoy standing on the stage.

The Court Theater (Hoftheater)

Have you seen enough?
In the studio the children can creatively apply what they've experienced, just as the famous palace artists did in days of old.  And this results in works of art that can be taken home as a pretty souvenir of the visit to the Children's Realm.

Guided tour for families
Following the visit to the Children's Realm, inspired by what was experienced there, both young and old get quite a different impression of the original palace rooms together.  In the historic rooms the history of Württemberg comes alive and is presented in a way appropriate for families.

"Federico", the palace eagle

Palace Rally with Federico
True detectives head off on their own initiative on a tour of discovery through the entire palace together with their friends and family.  Guided by the image of "Federico", the palace eagle, they visit four museums.  And those who have found the solution will receive their well-earned reward in the "children's realm".
