1744/75 New Rococo Appointments

Section of the ceiling fresco by Livo Retti in the order chapel

Shortly after Duke Carl Eugen's accession to the throne in 1744 he has numerous rooms redecorated on the Beletage of the New Corps de logis which had become unsightly. After the original Court Chapel (Hofkapelle) had been converted to a Catholic church, there was no Protestant chapel for Carl Eugen's wife. Therefore, the central building of the Hunting Order (Jagdorden) located opposite is remodeled to the Protestant Court Church.

Fascia apartment: Stuck and drawing

Beginning in 1757 Carl Eugen has an apartment furnished on the "Attikageschoss" (top floor) of the New Corps de logis. There an arrangement of rooms consisting of a large Antechamber (Vorsaal), two smaller Antechambers (Vorzimmer), an Assembly Room (Assembleezimmer), a suite and a Bedchamber (Schlafzimmer) with adjoining rooms are established. The chief architect La Guepiere has the rooms matched to each other, and ovens and fireplaces relocated. The walls are adorned with paintings, gilt stuccowork and wood carvings, as well as damask wallpapers.

Palace theater, stage

The Theater Building, which has stood empty up to this point, is decorated in 1758/59 according to plans of La Guêpiere. Parts of the original stage machinery have even been preserved until today.
From the 1770's on no further redecoration of the rooms takes place, furnishings are moved to Hohenheim or to the residential palace in Stuttgart, and even the maintenance work is reduced to a minimum. 1724/33 Tremendous Completion 1798/1820 New Classicistic Appointments
